1 A microscope (or binocular glasses) and suction is used by trained nurses to clean your ear canal and remove wax. This is the same method used by Ear Nose & Throat specialist doctors.
You will sit in a comfortable chair and a small metal funnel will be placed gently in your ear canal to enhance the view. The nurse may ask you to move your head to get the best view.

2 The nurse will wear binocular glasses fitted with a bright light to see your ear canal up close. The microscope may be used if a closer view is needed.
Ear suction may be used to remove ear wax or objects from the ear canal. In cases of ear infection, cleaning of the ear canal will help improve healing. At all times the nurse can see exactly what she is doing.

3 Ear suction is carried out with a small sucker attached to a low-pressure suction machine that works like a gentle vacuum cleaner. The nurse may also use fine instruments (like tiny forceps and spoons) to help remove wax.
Ear suction is noisy and you may feel some mild discomfort. Occasionally mild dizziness may be experienced for a few seconds. If this occurs the nurse will stop the suction to allow the dizziness to settle.

Taking Care Of Your Ears

Ears basically like to be left alone, BUT

Some people are very prone to a build up of ear wax.

They need regular cleans at Crystal Clear Ears

Sometimes a few drops of Olive oil or wax removal eardrops once a month, can help to keep the wax softer

Try not to use cotton buds, hairpins etc. to get the wax out, you may cause damage or push the wax further in.

Wax can cause itchy ears, try not to scratch, book a visit to us instead.

Hearing aid wearers are more prone to a wax build up and often need a visit to us twice yearly

Do not use Ear candles, scientists have shown that the stuff that is removed is not ear wax but simply residue from the burnt candle.
